BCRS Statement on Budget 2026

Advocacy In Action

The British Columbia Radiological Society (BCRS) welcomes the Government of British Columbia’s commitment to maintaining healthcare access and system stability in Budget 2026. For patients, however, stability must mean timely diagnoses and access to care when it matters most.

Medical imaging is a foundational component of the health system. Radiologists in British Columbia deliver more than one million emergency imaging exams after hours each year. Yet inconsistent funding for overnight and on-call coverage has created fragile imaging capacity, particularly in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities where reliable access is critical.

BCRS is calling on the provincial government to include a targeted annual investment of $22 million to stabilize after-hours imaging premiums, reduce backlogs, and protect patient access across the province.

Ensuring imaging capacity keeps pace with demand is essential to improving health outcomes for British Columbians. Without sustained investment, gaps in medical imaging risk undermining timely diagnoses and treatment across the province.
